The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued 12 crew members from a cargo vessel that caught fire off the coast of Maragondon, Cavite, in the early hours of March 30, 2025.
The fire broke out on board MV CASTPHILL XV, prompting a swift response from the PCG.
At approximately 04:27 am, the BRP Boracay (FPB-2401) rescued seven crew members, including the ship’s captain, who sustained only minor injuries.
A further five crew members were rescued by the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Maragondon at around 07:35am. They were later taken to the sub-station for medical attention.
By 07:59am, BRP Boracay had arrived at Pier 15, South Harbor, Manila, where the rescued crew were transferred to the Coast Guard Medical Dispensary for further evaluation.
The PCG has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Philippines Transport Secretary Vince Dizon has assured the public of his commitment to maritime safety, pledging continued efforts through the agencies under his department, including the PCG.
The PCG reiterated its commitment to ensuring maritime safety and responding swiftly to emergencies at sea.
