A suspect in the murder of a female patient inside a hospital in Dasmariñas City, Cavite surrendered to authorities early Thursday.

The suspect, identified only by the alias “Rommel,” turned himself in to Dasmarinas City Mayor Jenny Austria Barzaga and police chief Lt. Col. Julius Balano at 3:10 a.m.

The surrender came after the Aug. 29 shooting of 36-year-old Chatty Timbang, who was being treated in the emergency room of the Pagamutang Bayan ng Dasmarinas hospital.

Timbang’s mother, who was beside her, was hit by a stray bullet.

Two others, a hospital helper and a security guard, were also injured in the shooting as the gunman fled the scene.

Dasmariñas Mayor Barzaga credited the suspect’s family and the local barangay captain with helping to facilitate the surrender.

The mayor had previously offered a P100,000 peso reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects, including “Rommel” and another suspect known as “Urak.”

Balano confirmed that Timbang was a police informant, which may have been a motive for her killing.

Two other suspects remain at large.
