ALFONSO, Cavite — Mayor Randy Salamat has called on the Sangguniang Bayan to immediately hold a special and emergency session to speed up the purchase and distribution of rice to residents.
Salamat said the session should not be postponed until Monday, citing continuing rain with no clear indication of when it will stop.
The mayor urged council members to set politics aside and prioritize the emergency session, saying the move would expedite the procurement of rice for distribution to households in need.
Salamat also argued that government funds come from taxpayers and should be returned to them, particularly during times of need. He said residents do not know when the rain will stop, making it necessary to provide assistance drawn from their own tax contributions.
The mayor appealed to fellow local officials to prioritize residents’ welfare and temporarily set aside politics to deliver aid amid the continuing rain.
