NOVELETA, Cavite – A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday morning after he was caught selling an unlicensed firearm during a police buy-bust operation in Barangay San Rafael IV here.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Lester,” is a resident of this town.
Police said the suspect sold a Smith and Wesson revolver with no serial number to an undercover officer posing as a buyer for 1,000 pesos at around 10:23 a.m.
According to the Noveleta Municipal Police Station, authorities also recovered from the suspect two .38-caliber bullets, a sachet of suspected shabu weighing 0.06 grams worth an estimated 408 pesos, the 1,000-peso buy-bust money, two 100-peso bills, and a black belt bag.
The suspect was immediately arrested after he was caught in the act of completing the sale. He was informed of his rights before evidence seized was documented and inventoried in the presence of witnesses.
“Lester” now faces charges for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (Republic Act 10591) and the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Republic Act 9165).
Cavite Police Provincial Director Ariel R. Red said the campaign against illegal firearms and drugs would continue in order to maintain peace and safety in the province.
The suspect remains in custody at the Noveleta Municipal Police Station as authorities prepare to file charges against him.
