Two separate stabbing incidents involving students at Cavite schools within days of each other have raised concerns among parents and education officials about campus security, less than two weeks into the school year.
The first incident occurred June 16, 2026 at a private school in General Trias City, where a Grade 8 female student allegedly stabbed seven Grade 5 students inside a classroom.
Two of the victims sustained serious wounds and required surgery, according to reports.
The suspect was reportedly experiencing severe depression and is now under the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, where she is undergoing mental and physical evaluation.
Three days later, on June 19, 2026, a second stabbing was reported at Cavite National High School–Senior High School in Cavite City.
An 18-year-old senior high school student allegedly stabbed a classmate at least five times in different parts of the body following an argument that escalated into a fistfight before the attacker produced a small knife.
The victim was hospitalized in stable condition, and the suspect is in police custody.
The back-to-back incidents have prompted parents to call for stricter security measures, including more thorough bag inspections and tighter monitoring to prevent students from bringing sharp objects onto campus.
Some parents said the presence of guards alone is not enough to guarantee student safety.
The cases have reignited public debate over school security policies nationwide, with parents and other stakeholders urging the Department of Education to review current safety protocols.
Suggested measures include increasing security personnel, installing CCTV cameras in key campus areas, strengthening guidance and counseling programs, and conducting regular mental health and behavioral assessments of students.
Officials and advocacy groups also called for closer coordination among schools, parents, and local governments to identify students who may need psychological support, noting that physical security measures alone may not address underlying behavioral or mental health concerns.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
