CAVITE, Philippines — Manila Electric Company has energized a new Gas Insulated Switchgear substation in Cavite, expanding power capacity across five municipalities as the province continues to experience rapid urbanization and growing electricity demand.
The Island Cove GIS Substation is equipped with an 83-megavolt ampere power transformer bank and modern 115-kV and 34.5-kV GIS equipment, designed to reduce power interruptions and improve supply quality for residential and commercial consumers.
Meralco said the facility will serve the cities and towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, with key beneficiaries including Bacoor City Hall, Ayala Land’s Evo City, SM City Bacoor, Cavite Medical Center, and Binakayan Hospital and Medical Center.
The utility firm said the substation is part of its broader infrastructure modernization program to meet rising electricity consumption while maintaining grid stability and safety.
Meralco added that the project supports its wider plan to sustain economic growth in Cavite and other high-demand areas, with further infrastructure investments expected as electricity demand in the region continues to climb.
