TRILLANES RULES OUT 2028 SENATE, VICE PRESIDENTIAL BID OVER CAMPAIGN COSTS
Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV has ruled out running for senator or vice president in 2028, citing the enormous financial demands of a national campaign that he said are beyond his means.
Trillanes said a competitive national bid would require roughly P1 billion, driven largely by the cost of television advertising, which he said runs at about P1 million per minute of airtime.
He also acknowledged that his political network was limited compared to better-funded rivals, saying he could not realistically compete against candidates with broader resources and support bases.
Trillanes ran for mayor of Caloocan in the 2025 elections but lost, a result he said illustrated how difficult it was to mount a viable campaign without sufficient funding.
