GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite — A police officer faces criminal charges after allegedly shooting a fellow officer during an anti-illegal drug operation in Barangay Santiago, General Trias City, authorities said.
A police corporal was shot in the lower back during the incident, according to the Philippine National Police.
Authorities have filed direct assault and frustrated murder charges against the suspect, a patrolman with the PNP Maritime Group.
The Cavite Provincial Internal Affairs Service is investigating the shooting.
The suspect is being held at the General Trias City Police Station. The wounded officer is receiving medical treatment and has been provided financial assistance.
