TAGAYTAY CITY — Belle Corp. plans to plant 1 million trees across its Tagaytay Highlands development by 2044, doubling a reforestation effort that began three decades ago.

The property developer has planted 500,000 trees since launching its “One Tree at a Time” program in 1994, making it one of the largest private-sector reforestation programs in Tagaytay City, Cavite.

The company must plant about 25,000 trees annually over the next 20 years to meet its target.

“Our ‘One Tree at a Time’ program reflects our long-term vision for Tagaytay Highlands — not just as a premier residential and leisure destination, but as a model for how development and environmental conservation can coexist,” the company said in a statement.

The trees will help sequester carbon dioxide, prevent soil erosion and support local wildlife in the volcanic highlands north of Taal Volcano. Environmental experts estimate mature trees absorb approximately 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.

The project aligns with the Philippines’ commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase forest cover under international climate agreements.

Belle Corp.’s program includes water conservation measures, waste management and preservation of natural landscapes within the development. The company markets Tagaytay Highlands as an eco-friendly destination integrating green spaces into residential and recreational facilities.

Industry observers say the commitment positions Belle Corp. favorably as environmental, social and governance credentials become key differentiators in the property market.

Tree survival rates and biodiversity through varied species planting will be critical to the program’s success, requiring partnerships with environmental organizations, local government units and community stakeholders.
