A newly expanded sports complex in Imus, Cavite is positioning itself as a premier destination for competitive athletics, unveiling upgraded facilities as it hosts the opening match of UAAP football tournament.

The Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub inaugurated a 1,200-seat grandstand Thursday as Ateneo De Manila University faced De La Salle University in the women’s football season opener for the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

The new structure includes premium dugouts with modern showers and recovery areas, plus a dedicated media center—amenities designed to attract higher-level competitions.

“Our mission at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub has always been to provide world-class sports facilities for all types of athletes, for all levels of play,” said Nona Torres, senior project development head at Vermosa. The development is part of Ayala Land Inc.’s broader Vermosa township project in Cavite province.

The expansion reflects growing investment in sports infrastructure outside Metro Manila as developers seek to capitalize on the Philippines’ sports-enthusiastic population. The complex already features a FIFA-certified football field, an IAAF-certified track oval, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and a 30-room athlete’s lodging facility.

Rely San Agustin, tournament commissioner for UAAP football, said the improvements “will significantly enhance the overall experience for players and supporters, fostering greater engagement and passion for the sport.”

The facility is planning additional programming to drive utilization, including a multi-sport competition called the Victory Games and car-free weekend events beginning in September 2025. A dining area featuring food trucks, dubbed “Streat Jam,” is also in development.

The complex targets both recreational users and elite athletes. It competes with other sports facilities in Metro Manila and CALABARZON region as real estate developers increasingly incorporate athletics amenities into mixed-use developments.
