Habagat Dumps Month’s Worth of Rain in Cavite in Just 24 Hours — PAGASA

Torrential rains brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon, or Habagat, dumped the equivalent of nearly a month’s worth of rainfall across Cavite province in a single day, triggering severe flooding in several low-lying areas, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

Based on data recorded by the PAGASA Sangley Point Station, a staggering 382.1 millimeters of rain fell over Cavite within a 24-hour period—an amount the agency said typically falls over 26 days in the month of July.

The intensified Habagat was strengthened by Tropical Storm Crising, which has been enhancing the southwest monsoon rains over Luzon and nearby areas since the start of the week.

The deluge resulted in waist- to head-deep flooding in multiple parts of the province, rendering some major roads impassable and forcing families to evacuate from their homes. Local government units, particularly in flood-prone municipalities, have raised alert levels and mobilized rescue teams for possible preemptive evacuations.

As of Tuesday morning, the Cavite Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) continued to monitor the situation, urging residents to stay updated through official channels and prepare for more rain in the coming days.

PAGASA has warned that more downpours are likely as the Habagat continues to be enhanced by the weather disturbance outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
