TAGAYTAY, Cavite – Three people were killed and five others injured when a van collided with a car on Bypass Road in Barangay Zambal, Tagaytay City in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.

The fatalities included a pregnant woman identified as Jenalyn Embarga, a resident of Barangay Calulut in San Fernando, Pampanga, who was a passenger in the car. The car’s driver, Jemar Pelias from Barangay Manggas II in Alfonso, Cavite, and an unidentified male were also killed in the crash.

Five passengers in the van, all recent high school graduates aged 17-18 from Mendez, Cavite, were injured and taken to hospital.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Jefferson Ison, chief of Tagaytay City Police Station, said the van’s occupants may have been drinking alcohol before the accident.

“They had been drinking and then went on a road trip, having just graduated from high school,” Ison told reporters.

The three people in the car were reportedly heading to a hospital to bring Embarga for medical treatment when the collision occurred.

The 18-year-old driver of the van, who is among those hospitalized, faces potential charges including multiple counts of homicide, physical injuries and damage to property, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
