2 Men Arrested for Mall Theft in Dasmariñas City

Dasmariñas, Cavite — Two men were arrested Wednesday night for allegedly stealing a roll of wire worth nearly P6,000 from Unitop Mall in Barangay Paliparan 1, Dasmariñas City, Cavite.

Dasmariñas police chief Lt. Col. Regino L. Oñate identified the suspects as “Mark,” a resident of Barangay 163, Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City, and “Elmo,” of Barangay Unang Sigaw, Quezon City.

According to the initial investigation, the suspects entered the mall posing as shoppers. A security guard stopped them at around 8 p.m. after noticing a paper bag they were carrying. Upon inspection, a box of Wiremax wire (8.0 mm, 100 meters) valued at P5,945 was found inside. One suspect presented a receipt that did not match the item.

The guard detained the men and sought assistance from the Cavite Mobile Patrol Unit (MPU), which was conducting a police visibility operation nearby. The suspects were turned over to the Dasmariñas City Police Station for investigation.

Authorities informed the suspects of their constitutional rights in a language they understood. They are currently detained at the station’s custodial facility as theft charges are being prepared for inquest proceedings before the Dasmariñas City Prosecutor’s Office.

Oñate credited the swift coordination between the mall security and Cavite MPU for the quick arrest, citing it as evidence of the effectiveness of ongoing police visibility operations in crowded areas.
