Maynilad Customers in Imus and Caloocan to Receive Water Bill Rebates Due to Quality Issues
Some customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. in Imus, Cavite, and Caloocan will receive rebates on their water bills due to issues with water quality, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) said.
The MWSS imposed the penalty on the water concessionaire as a reminder of their obligation to provide clean and quality water to their customers.
“If we don’t impose penalties, this might happen again, or if it happens again, it will happen more frequently. So, by imposing penalties now, they will learn to be more proactive and ensure this is prevented,” said MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Ty.
In Caloocan, a water sampling in 2023 revealed that the coliform content (bacteria from human and animal waste) exceeded the allowable limit in the area of Barangays 63 to 67.
The MWSS also reported low chlorine levels in the water supply in Imus after residents complained about the color and smell of the water they use daily.
Maynilad described these as isolated cases. “We can assure you that we have already addressed this… our regular water quality monitoring continues, and we have conducted additional flushing activities,” said Maynilad WSO Officer Ian Abiera.
