Carmona residents question effectiveness of ₱433M flood control funds after flooding

CARMONA, Cavite — Residents and social media users have raised questions over the effectiveness of flood control projects in this town after it experienced severe flooding despite more than ₱433 million allotted for such projects, on top of billions more spent across the wider congressional district.

Some residents said certain flood control projects appeared ineffective and called for a thorough investigation to determine whether the projects met proper standards or suffered from defects in design, construction or maintenance.

Others noted that some areas had not previously experienced flooding of this magnitude, prompting calls for an independent audit and technical assessment of flood control projects in the district of Rep. Roy Loyola.

Based on available national budget records, municipalities in the district received the following approximate allocations for flood control projects in recent years:

  • Silang — ₱1.06 billion
  • Carmona — ₱433.4 million
  • General Mariano Alvarez — ₱292 million

The three localities received a combined estimated ₱1.78 billion in flood control funding.
