CAVITE CITY — A father is demanding accountability after his child’s grave at a public cemetery here was allegedly used as a trash dump and damaged when the garbage was set on fire.

Ronnie Portales aired his complaint in a social media post on June 21, 2026, appealing to Cavite City Mayor Denver Reyes Chua to take action.

“Why did people do this to my child’s grave? They burned garbage there and even the tombstone was burned. You have guards but nobody checks inside the cemetery. I hope you act on this because even the paint we put there was erased,” Portales wrote.

Photos he shared showed the grave surrounded by burned refuse with visible fire damage. Portales said the tombstone was damaged and the paint the family had applied was destroyed.

Beyond the physical damage, Portales also decried what he described as a lack of supervision and security inside the cemetery.

The incident has renewed attention to persistent concerns at some public cemeteries, including waste disposal, security, and the need for regular inspection of facilities.
