CARMONA CITY, Cavite — A 23-year-old college student died early Tuesday after his motorcycle plunged off a bridge while he was apparently using his cellphone, police said.
The victim, identified only by his alias Ely, of Barangay Milagrosa, Carmona City, was rushed to the Carmona Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police said the victim was riding his black Yamaha NMAX motorcycle along Southwood’s Congressional Road Bridge in Barangay Cabilang Baybay at around midnight, traveling from GMA, Cavite, when the vehicle fell from the structure.
Closed-circuit television footage showed the motorcycle moving slowly before the crash, with the rider appearing to look down and use a cellphone. Investigators said he failed to notice he was approaching a two-way bridge with an open gap on the right side, where he fell.
A witness reported the incident to the Carmona Component City Police Station, and responders brought the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim’s parents declined to have the body subjected to an autopsy.
