BACOOR MAN SHOT IN SUSPECTED ONLINE GOLD JEWELRY SCAM IN SILANG
SILANG, Cavite — A 31-year-old man was wounded after being shot by an unidentified gunman following what police believe was a staged online jewelry transaction that turned violent Wednesday night, April 30.
The victim, identified only by his alias “Allen,” a resident of Bacoor City, sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm.
According to police, the victim had been in contact with an individual on Facebook who offered to sell a 55-gram gold bracelet valued at P400,000. Allen agreed to meet the seller at Barangay Putingkahoy in Silang to complete the transaction.
Upon arriving at the agreed location, the suspect could no longer be reached by phone, prompting Allen and his companion, identified only as “Aviel,” 24, to leave the area.
While traveling along Calaca Road on their motorcycle, two gunshots rang out from an undetermined direction. Allen then realized he had been hit in the arm.
The two fled on their motorcycle and sought help from residents in the area. Allen was subsequently brought by barangay ambulance to Silang Specialist Medical Center.
The Silang Municipal Police Station is continuing its investigation to identify the suspect and establish the motive. Authorities suspect the incident was a premeditated scheme that escalated into an attempted killing.
Police are reminding the public to exercise caution in online transactions to avoid falling victim to similar schemes.
