NAIC, Cavite — A 22-year-old delivery rider was arrested and charged with perjury after police investigators unraveled what authorities said was a fabricated robbery report designed to conceal his failure to remit collected funds to his employer.

The suspect was taken into custody at around 7:30 p.m. on April 10 by the Naic Municipal Police Station following a swift investigation that exposed multiple inconsistencies in his account.

In his initial statement, the rider claimed three armed men stopped him at the Walong Butas Bridge at around 11 p.m. on April 9 and took his motorcycle and P6,940 in cash remittance he was carrying.

The story quickly fell apart under scrutiny. Investigators established that the suspect had been drinking before the alleged incident and did not arrive home until 2 a.m. His motorcycle was later found parked undisturbed in Barangay Calubcob, Naic — not stolen as he had claimed. His sling bag was also recovered with the full P6,940 still intact.

The motive became clear when police learned that the suspect’s supervisor had already filed a complaint against him for failing to remit the collected money. Authorities concluded the robbery story was fabricated to escape accountability for the missing funds.

Cavite Provincial Director Police Col. Ariel R. Red commended the swift investigation and warned the public against filing false reports.

“Anyone who gives false information to authorities will be held accountable under the law,” Red said.
