Bacoor city meets with transport agencies on LRT-1 Cavite extension progress

BACOOR, Cavite — Local officials of Bacoor City met with national transport authorities Thursday to discuss the implementation of the LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension, a rail project expected to ease chronic traffic congestion in one of Metro Manila’s most densely populated southern gateways.

Mayor Strike Revilla led the coordination meeting at the Sangguniang Bayan Room (SBR) Conference Room, which brought together representatives from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), and the Cavite Extension Project Team.

Discussions centered on the city’s requests regarding the proposed Talaba and NOMO stations, including a feasibility study for the latter, as well as a proposed change in the location of the Niog Station intermodal hub and its access road.

Parties also reviewed fund utilization under existing memoranda of agreement, covering the Niog access road construction, resettlement of informal settler families displaced by the project, and the clearing of structures along the alignment.

The LRT-1 Cavite Extension, a flagship infrastructure project under the national government, will extend the existing light rail line from its current southern terminus in Baclaran through Bacoor and into the heart of Cavite province, serving millions of commuters from rapidly urbanizing communities south of Manila.

City planning and development officials, accounting representatives, and engineers from the mayor’s office joined the Bacoor delegation, while DOTr sent five technical representatives and LRTA fielded three officials.

No timeline updates were disclosed following the meeting.
