IMUS CITY, Cavite — Police arrested a man early Saturday, 8 Nov. 2025, after he allegedly pointed a gun at a motorcycle-for-hire driver and stole the rider’s cellphone during a failed carnapping attempt, authorities said.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “John” and a resident of Parañaque City, was apprehended around 4:11 a.m. along a road in Imus City, according to PCPT Marlon Sotomayor, chief of the Mobile Patrol Unit.
The victim told investigators the suspect hired him for a ride to SM Moonwalk in Las Piñas City. When the suspect could not find the person he was looking for, they returned to Imus City. There, the suspect allegedly drew a .38-caliber revolver, threatened the driver and tried to seize the motorcycle.
Fearing for his life, the driver dismounted and removed the ignition key to prevent the theft. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s cellphone, valued at 1,500 pesos, and fled on a passenger jeepney toward Bacoor City, police said.
The victim flagged down the Mobile Patrol Unit, which was conducting visibility patrols in the area. Officers pursued and arrested the suspect, recovering the stolen cellphone and the homemade revolver loaded with five rounds.
The suspect was informed of his rights under Republic Act 7438, known as the Miranda Doctrine, and the Anti-Torture Warning Act.
“The swift response of the Mobile Patrol Unit proves their alertness, professionalism and dedication to protecting our citizens — no criminal from outside will get away in Cavite,” PCOL Ariel R Red, acting provincial director of the Cavite Police Provincial Office, said in a statement.
The suspect faces charges under Republic Act 10883, the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, and Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
