Construction of a large shopping center in the province of Cavite is progressing a year after work began, developers have announced.
SM City General Trias is scheduled for completion in 2027 and will be among the largest shopping malls in Cavite.
The project forms part of a wider development in General Trias that includes housing, commercial spaces and transport links.
Developers say the mall will create thousands of jobs for local residents and help drive economic growth in Calabarzon region.
Cavite has experienced rapid urban expansion due to its proximity to Metro Manila, with many residents commuting to work in the capital.
The shopping center is being built by SM Prime Holdings as part of the company’s expansion into provincial areas to meet growing demand for retail and leisure facilities.
Beyond shopping, the complex is designed as a lifestyle destination offering restaurants and entertainment venues for the area’s expanding population.
The development reflects the Philippines’ push towards integrated urban planning as cities like General Trias develop into economic centers that support Metro Manila.
