ROSARIO, Cavite – Local authorities conducted an inspection of coastal waters in Rosario, Cavite on Monday, finding no evidence of oil contamination following recent oil spill concerns.
Members of the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Office (MDRRMO), Bantay-Dagat (Sea Patrol), and the Fishermen’s Association surveyed the area using specialized equipment to detect potential oil presence.
Conrad Abutin, Chief of Operations at MDRRMO, demonstrated the use of an oil absorbent material, which remained clean after multiple submersions in the water. Divers also reported no visible oil contamination during underwater inspections.
“This is our third day of inspections, and the results are encouraging,” said Mike Concha, Chairman of Bantay-Dagat. “We have reported our findings to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.”
Observers noted the presence of water lilies floating on the surface, showing no signs of oil residue.
The inspections are part of ongoing efforts to monitor the area following earlier reports of an oil spill affecting parts of the coastline. Local authorities plan to continue regular surveys of Rosario’s waters.
