Tensions flared at a local basketball league game in Brgy. Punta II, Tanza, Cavite the other day.
A video from the scene shows a player charging at the referee, followed by another player aggressively confronting the official.
The altercation spilled onto the streets with several players and spectators engaging in a heated exchange of words.
According to Brgy. Punta II officials, a stone-throwing incident occurred after the game, resulting in two injuries.
The players, many of whom are related, met to discuss the incident.
They attributed the clash to the high stakes of the game which led to tempers boiling over.
The youth council of the barangay has temporarily suspended the league as a result of the incident.
An investigation is underway to identify those involved in the stone-throwing.
The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) has also coordinated with local police to ensure law enforcement presence at future games.
