To respond to the ongoing El Niño phenomenon gripping the nation, Engr. Danilo Nobleza, head of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Cavite, and the provincial government of Cavite organized the first El Niño Team Meeting on February 27, 2024. The meeting took place at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall, Legislative Building, Trece Martires City.

The meeting brought together stakeholders from different national agencies, provincial government departments, NGOs and the private sector. They recognized the potential impact of El Niño on food security, water, energy, health, and public safety in general, and formulated proactive measures to mitigate its adverse effects on the province.

The meeting, led by DILG-Cavite, was a pivotal step to safeguard communities and ensure resilience in the face of climatic challenges.

Mr. Alvin Mojica, Provincial Administrator Community Affairs, emphasized the timeliness of the initiative and the importance of collaboration to mitigate the impacts of El Niño.

Mr. Henri Hermenegildo, PAGASA representative, gave an outlook and discussion on the prevailing weather conditions and El Niño projections for the planning activity.

Key representatives from various sectors discussed a range of initiatives, such as water conservation efforts, agricultural diversification, and community awareness campaigns.

As El Niño threatens the province, Cavite El Niño Team remains committed to strengthening preparedness and enhancing the province’s capacity to withstand the impacts of El Niño.
