GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite — One man died and three others were injured in a collision involving a car and a tricycle on Governor Ferrer Drive in Barangay Pasong Kawayan 2 early Oct. 21, police said.
The 67-year-old driver of the Toyota Corolla Altis was arrested after testing positive for alcohol, according to the General Trias Component City Police Station.
A preliminary investigation showed the Toyota, traveling northbound, swerved left into the opposite lane at about 12:20 a.m. and collided with a southbound RUSI tricycle with plate number 725DMD. The tricycle driver tried to avoid the crash by veering right but could not, police said.
The left front of the Toyota hit the left side of the tricycle, injuring its four occupants. All four were taken to a hospital.
One of them, identified only by the alias Ignacio, 50, a resident of Barangay Sabang in Naic, Cavite, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician due to severe head injuries.
The tricycle driver, 35, identified by the alias Jaydie, suffered serious injuries to the lower body. Two passengers, identified by the aliases Jahn, 18, and Sandie, 34, both of General Trias City, were also hurt.
Both vehicles sustained visible damage.
Responding officers noticed the Toyota driver smelled of alcohol, police said. Sobriety and breathalyzer tests showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.129%.
The driver was arrested and informed of his constitutional rights in a language he understands. He was taken to the General Trias station for further investigation.
He faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injuries and damage to property, and violation of Republic Act 10586, the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
Police are still processing the case, and a more detailed spot report is expected.
