A fake document claiming to declare Monday, March 11, 2024, as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr has been circulating online, prompting Malacañang to issue a warning to the public.

The document, labeled as “Proclamation No. 729,” bears the signature of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and the seal of the Office of the President. However, it is a tampered version of Proclamation No. 729, s. 2019, which was issued by then Executive Secretary Medialdea during the previous administration.

Proclamation No. 729, s. 2019 declared Wednesday, June 5, 2019, as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr, the feast of the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Malacañang Palace said in a statement that the fake proclamation is a “malicious attempt to sow confusion and misinformation” and urged the public to verify the authenticity of any document before sharing it online.

The Palace also said that the official declaration of holidays is done through the Official Gazette, the official journal of the Republic of the Philippines, and the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

Malacañang added that the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) will issue the official announcement on the observance of Eid’l Fitr based on the Islamic calendar.

Eid’l Fitr is one of the two major Islamic festivals in the Philippines, along with Eid’l Adha. It is celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting, prayer, and charity. It is also a time of gratitude, forgiveness, and unity among the Muslim community.
