SILANG, Cavite — The municipal government here is set to launch P26.45 million worth of projects to address longstanding flooding problems in several barangays.
Silang Mayor Gen. Ted Carranza said the funds will go toward rehabilitating drainage systems in Lumil, Kaong and Sabutan, and constructing a retaining wall in Bulihan and other affected areas.
“I understand the hardship you’re going through, but we won’t stop here. We have the funds, we have the plan, and we’re starting the solution,” Carranza said in a Facebook post.
The mayor said the project aims to provide a long-term solution to flooding and improve residents’ safety.
Carranza added that tree conservation will be carried out alongside the drainage projects.
“As we fix the drainage, we will also take care of the trees. Indiscriminate cutting of trees is not a solution,” he said.
The projects are expected to begin soon as part of the local government’s flood mitigation and disaster preparedness program.
