SILANG, Cavite — Two women died and a third was injured after a speeding vehicle struck them as they were walking home from work along Santa Rosa–Tagaytay Road in Barangay Pasong Langka, Silang, Cavite on the night of July 22, 2026.

Killed were an 18-year-old working student and a 43-year-old woman. A 26-year-old companion sustained injuries.

CCTV footage showed the three victims crossing the highway together at around 7 p.m. Authorities said they had stopped midway to let one vehicle pass, but were struck seconds later by another vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

The impact threw all three onto the road. The 18-year-old was then run over by another oncoming vehicle. Neither driver involved in the incident stopped to help, and both fled the scene, according to authorities.

The tragedy struck closer to home for one family: the young man’s father, a barangay tanod on duty that night, was among the first responders to the crash. He said he had only received a call about a serious collision and did not realize until he arrived at the scene that the victim was his own son.

He said he was torn between pursuing the fleeing vehicles and helping the injured, and in the end the two surviving victims were the ones brought to the hospital.

The victim’s mother, in tears, recalled that her son had been just days away from starting his first year of college. He had already enrolled and purchased his school supplies, and had taken on work on his own initiative to help with family expenses before classes began. She said he had repeatedly told her he planned to work only until his contract ended — not knowing, she said, that its end would coincide with the end of his life.

The 43-year-old woman who also died is survived by her husband and two children. The 26-year-old companion remains under medical treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.

Barangay Pasong Langka Capt. Elmer Dimapilis said heavy rain shortly before the incident had reduced visibility for motorists to nearly zero, which he believes contributed to the crash, though he added that vehicles traveling along the highway also tend to speed.

The barangay is coordinating with police to review CCTV footage and identify the two drivers who fled the scene. The victims’ families are hoping witnesses will come forward to help bring those responsible to justice.
