BACOOR CITY, Cavite — A fire tore through a coastal residential area Tuesday afternoon, destroying an estimated 30 homes and killing two women who were trapped inside a house, officials said.

The fire broke out around 2:15 p.m. in Barangay Poblacion and spread quickly through the densely packed structures, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze before discovering the bodies of two women inside a single home.

Authorities identified the victims as Liezel, 57, and her mother, Fe, 79. Both were residents of the area. A relative, Jerry R. De Jesus, said the two were unable to escape during the fire.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. The Cavite Provincial Forensic Unit is assisting with the inquiry led by Police Maj. Giovanni R. Brinquez.

Local government officials are providing assistance to families displaced by the fire.
