2 killed, 3 hurt as runaway truck plows into 8 vehicles in Cavite

SILANG, Cavite — A runaway 10-wheeler truck with failed brakes plowed into eight vehicles along Tagaytay–Santa Rosa Road in Barangay Puting Kahoy Wednesday morning, killing two people and injuring three others.

The collision occurred past 7 a.m. on March 18, 2026, as the truck was descending the road when its brakes reportedly gave out, causing the driver to lose control and slam into vehicles ahead.

Two people were killed on the spot from the severity of their injuries. Three others were rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.

The impact left the scene strewn with wrecked cars and motorcycles. Several victims were trapped inside their vehicles and had to be extracted by rescue teams using specialized equipment.

The incident caused heavy traffic along the road for several hours as authorities conducted clearing operations and an investigation. Traffic flow gradually returned to normal after the wrecked vehicles were cleared from the road.

The driver, who fled the scene, could face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple injuries, and damage to property, depending on the outcome of the investigation.

Authorities reminded motorists — particularly those traveling along steep, downhill roads — to ensure their vehicles are in proper working condition to prevent similar tragedies.
