TANZA, Cavite — The Department of the Interior and Local Government announced Friday the raid of an illegal cigarette manufacturing operation inside a warehouse in Tanza, Cavite.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said agents conducted the operation Thursday morning under a letter of authority from the Bureau of Customs.
“This has been in operation since August 2025. Their estimated production has reached as much as PhP2 billion pesos since August,” Remulla said.
The facility was registered as “Cavite South Luzon Steel Management” and declared canned goods as the products stored on the premises.
Authorities said the investigation was partly triggered by a tip from a concerned citizen who reported detecting a strong smell of tobacco coming from the area.
The DILG said a high-ranking official is suspected of serving as a protector for the smugglers behind the operation.
