DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite — A motorcycle rider was arrested early Wednesday after police stopped him for not wearing a helmet and discovered he was carrying an unlicensed firearm in Barangay Salawag.
Police identified the suspect by the alias “Ryan,” a resident of Dasmariñas City. He faces charges of violating Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and resisting arrest.
According to the Dasmariñas Component City Police Station, officers were conducting routine patrol along Barangay Salawag at approximately 1:25 a.m. when they spotted the suspect riding a red Honda TMX 125 motorcycle without a helmet, a traffic violation.
When police attempted to stop him, the suspect allegedly accelerated and fled. Officers pursued him in a brief chase before cornering him in a section of the barangay.
Instead of surrendering, the suspect allegedly resisted and attempted to draw and point a firearm at the officers. Police subdued him before he could fire, leading to his arrest.
A body search recovered a 9mm Sarsilmaz K11 pistol with one magazine containing three rounds of ammunition. The suspect could not produce documentation authorizing him to own or carry the weapon.
The suspect is being held at the Dasmariñas City Police Station custodial facility pending the filing of charges. Police reminded the public to obey traffic laws and avoid carrying illegal weapons to maintain peace and order in the community.
