The Bancod–Palauit Irrigation System (BPIS), the country’s longest underground irrigation network, continues to supply water to farmlands in Cavite more than a century after it was built.

The system begins at the Bancod Dam in Indang, where water from springs and streams is collected before passing through a network of canals and tunnels that keep irrigation flowing even in dry months.

BPIS extends to Palauit in Trece Martires City, where water is released into smaller canals feeding rice fields in General Trias and Rosario.

Engineers and local historians regard BPIS as both an agricultural lifeline and a testament to the ingenuity of earlier generations who developed the system without modern equipment.

The network helped secure food production in Cavite and remains part of the province’s cultural identity.

Today, the BPIS stands as one of Cavite’s most enduring engineering landmarks, reflecting the integration of natural resources, community skill and early technology in sustaining rural livelihoods.
