SILANG, Cavite — Street vendors removed from the perimeter of the Silang Public Market have been temporarily relocated in front of the NSN building, but many are raising concerns over reports of a P5,000 monthly rental fee for the new site.
According to the president of the Silang Street Vendors Association, the new location is a temporary arrangement while the local government has yet to designate a permanent vending area.
Some vendors, however, expressed surprise upon learning that they may be required to pay rent for the temporary space — a fee many say is too steep given their day-to-day earnings.
“This is a heavy blow to our livelihood,” one vendor said. “We hope the local government can help us find a more affordable option or provide assistance while we wait for a more permanent solution.”
As of this writing, local authorities have not issued a statement regarding the reported rental charges.
