The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of a bus driver caught on video gambling and using a cellphone while driving a passenger bus in Cavite.
The driver, employed by Kersteen Joyce Transport, was seen in a passenger-recorded video playing an online gambling game on his phone while navigating the Silang-Dasmariñas route.
In a statement, the LTO said the driver’s license is suspended for 90 days and he has been ordered to explain why it should not be permanently revoked. He also faces administrative charges for reckless and distracted driving.
“This driver seems to have a serious addiction to online gambling, risking the safety of passengers just to play,” said LTO acting chief Greg Pua Jr. “We will not let this slide.”
The LTO also issued a show-cause order to the bus company’s management, requiring them to explain the incident. The agency warned that failure to respond will be taken as a waiver of their right to be heard and the case will be resolved based on available evidence.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon reminded all public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers to focus on the road and prioritize passenger safety.
