MARAGONDON, Cavite — Maragondon Wind Energy Corp. (MWEC) is planning to build a P10.58-billion wind power project in this town, part of efforts to boost renewable energy capacity in Luzon and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

The project, with a planned capacity of 200 megawatts, will cover approximately 4,941 hectares and feature up to 36 wind turbines, according to MWEC’s disclosure.

Construction is targeted to begin in 2026, with commercial operations eyed by December 2028.

MWEC said the wind farm is designed to support the Philippine Energy Plan, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s power mix.

The company added that the project could help stabilize power supply in Luzon, lower electricity costs in the long term, and contribute to the government’s climate goals.

If completed as planned, the Maragondon wind project would become one of the largest onshore wind farms in the Calabarzon region, bolstering Cavite’s growing role in clean energy development.

The Department of Energy has been encouraging investments in wind and solar power as the Philippines seeks to raise renewable energy’s share to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.
