CAVITE, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed over P5.32 billion worth of illegal drugs on Tuesday in a public disposal ceremony in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

The drugs, weighing more than 2.2 metric tons of solid substances and over 3.4 liters of liquid substances, were incinerated through thermal decomposition at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. facility in Barangay Aguado.

Among those destroyed were 738 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, 1.4 tonnes of marijuana, nearly 5 kilograms of MDMA (ecstasy), and smaller quantities of cocaine, LSD, ketamine, and other controlled substances.

Authorities also disposed of 404 kilograms of shabu seized during a joint interdiction operation at the Port of Manila in January.

PDEA Director General Isagani R. Nerez, who assumed office over three months ago, led the event, which was attended by Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Chairman Oscar F. Valenzuela, representatives from the Philippine National Police, Department of Justice, and other government agencies, along with local officials and non-government organizations.

“These are drug evidences seized in various law enforcement operations and recently ordered destroyed by the courts,” Nerez said. “We burn these drugs publicly to eliminate any suspicion of recycling.”

Nerez commended the judiciary for the expedited prosecution of drug cases, enabling timely disposal. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s “Bagong Pilipinas” governance program.

“The public deserves nothing less than our utmost diligence and integrity,” he added.
