CAVITE CITY — Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua denied allegations linking him to vote-buying, following a show cause order issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“The show cause order is given by Comelec to require a candidate to explain a complaint, even if it comes from an individual or an anonymous source. It means anyone can file a complaint, even without basis,” Chua said.

Chua stressed that he is complying with all Comelec regulations. “I am running unopposed, so there is no reason for me to engage in vote-buying when my victory in the upcoming election is already certain,” he added.

The mayor dismissed the accusations as an attempt by political detractors to tarnish his reputation and disrupt his administration.

Aside from Chua, Cavite 3rd District Rep. Adrian Jay Advincula was also earlier issued a show cause order for alleged vote-buying, involving the distribution of P500 to tricycle drivers.
