Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), the Philippines’ largest power distributor, has energized a new substation in Santa Rosa, Laguna, to address the growing electricity needs of Cavite and the neighboring province of Laguna, the company announced Sunday.

The Mesaland 115 kilovolt (kV)-34.5 kV substation, equipped with an 83-megavolt-ampere (MVA) power transformer and four new distribution feeders, aims to enhance power quality and system reliability for residential, commercial, and industrial customers in Silang and Tagaytay in Cavite, as well as Santa Rosa and Cabuyao in Laguna.

“The newly energized Mesaland Substation underscores Meralco’s unwavering commitment to quality and continuous service improvement,” said Froilan Savet, Meralco’s first vice president and head of networks, in a statement.

He noted that the facility will meet the rising power demands of these high-growth areas.

Among the beneficiaries are residential communities such as Treveia and The Sonoma Residences, educational and healthcare institutions including Adventist University of the Philippines and The Medical City South Luzon, and commercial hubs like Landers Superstore, Ayala Malls Solenad, and Robinsons Nuvali.

Meralco, led by business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan, serves over eight million customers across Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and parts of Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, and Pampanga.

The activation of the Mesaland substation is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to bolster infrastructure and support economic expansion in its franchise areas.
