Philippine authorities have cracked down on unregistered vehicles and seatbelt violators in the CALABARZON region, apprehending over 7,400 unregistered motor vehicles and penalizing nearly 4,500 drivers for not wearing seatbelts in September 2024.
According to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) CALABARZON regional office, the aggressive operations resulted in the seizure of 7,407 unregistered vehicles, including 4,007 motorcycles, 1,908 tricycles, and 820 privately-owned vans.
LTO also penalized 4,502 drivers for violating the Seatbelt Law, with the Cabuyao District Office leading the charge with 766 apprehensions.
In addition, 54 drivers were apprehended during a regionwide anti-colorum drive, targeting vehicles operating without proper permits.
LTO-CALABARZON Regional Director Elmer Decena warned that owners of unregistered vehicles will face stiffer sanctions if they fail to renew their registration.
He also announced that the LTO is preparing to file criminal charges against the owners and drivers of apprehended colorum vehicles.
The crackdown is part of an intensified campaign by the LTO to enforce land transportation laws and improve road safety in the country.
