KAWIT, Cavite — In the early hours of Saturday, July 6, 2024, local police in Kawit, Cavite province, arrested two individuals on drug-related charges, marking another development in the country’s ongoing war on drugs.

The operation, conducted at approximately 1:15 a.m. in Barangay Toclong, was a joint effort between the Kawit Municipal Police Station’s Drug Enforcement Unit and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 4A. The suspects, identified only by their aliases “Syone” and “Danilo,” were apprehended during a buy-bust operation.

According to the police report, the suspects were caught selling a small heat-sealed plastic sachet containing what is believed to be methamphetamine, locally known as “shabu.” The arrests were made under the supervision of Police Lieutenant Colonel Richard D. Corpuz, Chief of Police for Kawit.

The suspects, both residents of Barangay Toclong, were informed of their rights under the Miranda Doctrine in their native language before being taken to the Kawit Municipal Police Station for processing.

The operation is part of an intensified campaign against criminal activities in the area. In a statement, the Kawit Municipal Police emphasized their commitment to preventing and eradicating crime from Kawit. The police also issued a warning to the public, urging them to refrain from engaging in illegal drug activities.

The arrests fall under Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. These sections deal with the sale and possession of illegal drugs, respectively.

The Kawit Municipal Police Station has pledged to maintain its aggressive stance against all forms of criminality, echoing the national government’s “New Philippines” (Bagong Pilipinas) slogan in its commitment to serve and protect.
