BATANGAS WOMAN LOSES P21,000 TO FAKE COOKING OIL SCAM
A Batangas woman lost P21,000 after purchasing what she believed was cooking oil, only to discover the containers were filled with water mixed with food coloring, according to a social media post that has since gone viral.
The victim said she was drawn in by an unusually low price offer. When she opened the containers, she found that only the top layer resembled oil while the rest was water — a deceptive arrangement made harder to detect by a straw inserted inside each bottle that obscured the contents during inspection.
The transaction was made through cash on delivery, meaning no advance payment was required, though the woman still suffered significant financial loss upon receiving the fraudulent goods.
She has since warned the public to scrutinize products carefully and remain wary of suspiciously cheap offers, particularly from unknown sellers.
Authorities and consumer advocates have continued to remind the public to verify the legitimacy of products before completing purchases, as scams involving counterfeit goods have been reported with increasing frequency amid rising commodity prices.
