SILANG, Cavite — A 6-year-old boy was killed and his father wounded after a suspected gunman opened fire on the two as they rode home on a motorcycle late Tuesday evening in Barangay Ulat, Silang, Cavite.
The suspect, identified by police only as “Elpidio,” 68, a former barangay councilor of Barangay Ulat, allegedly ambushed the father and son before fleeing the scene.
Investigators said the suspect was heavily intoxicated at the time of the shooting.
According to Police Cpl. Minervin Castillo, the case investigator, the shooting occurred at around 8 p.m.
The victims were identified by their aliases as Ruel, 35, and his son, RL, 6, both residents of Barangay Pasong Langka, Silang, Cavite.
The two were returning home by motorcycle from Barangay Ulat’s hall, where they had earlier filed a complaint against the barangay chief’s son over an alleged mauling of the young victim.
According to police, the barangay chief had agreed to shoulder the cost of the child’s CT scan as part of an amicable settlement before the two headed home.
The boy was shot in the head and was pronounced dead after being rushed to a hospital. His father sustained a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and remained under observation as of the report.
Castillo clarified that the complaint filed by the victims at the barangay hall was not believed to be directly connected to the shooting.
Police are actively pursuing the suspect, who faces charges of murder and frustrated murder.
