Motorboat Catches Fire Off Cavite Coast; 1 Crew Member Rescued
NAIC, Cavite — A motorboat caught fire in waters off Barangay Bucana Malaki in this town at approximately 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2026, prompting a swift response from maritime authorities.
Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard Sub Station Naic, together with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and Bantay Dagat Naic, responded after receiving reports that the vessel, identified as the “Xin Rich,” had caught fire while anchored in a local anchorage area.
Responding authorities rescued one crew member from the burning vessel. No other injuries or missing persons were reported, according to initial accounts.
Personnel contained the blaze using manual fire buckets filled with seawater, preventing the fire from spreading further. The fire was eventually extinguished, limiting damage to the vessel.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Officials commended the coast guard sub station for its swift response, noting that the coordinated action demonstrated readiness in maritime emergencies. Authorities said they remain committed to ensuring the safety of fishermen and mariners within their area of responsibility.
