CAVITE — Police in Cavite province have arrested a 21-year-old motorcycle rider accused of assaulting officers and ramming a patrol vehicle during a checkpoint operation, authorities said Saturday.
The suspect, identified as “Alyas J,” was apprehended following a chase that began when Tanza police flagged down his white Yamaha Mio Soul Sporty at the Amaya Junction checkpoint in Brgy. Amaya I for routine inspection, according to Tanza Municipal Police Station chief PLt Col Joven Bahil.
“Instead of stopping, the suspect allegedly sped off with his back rider, prompting officers to pursue him,” Bahil said.
During the chase, police said the suspect deliberately bumped an officer attempting to intercept him before ramming the front bumper of a police mobile, damaging its windshield, headlight, hood and bumper.
Responding officers recovered an unlicensed .38 caliber revolver loaded with two live rounds from the motorcycle’s compartment.
Both the suspect and his back rider were transported to General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital in Trece Martires City for medical treatment. The suspect remains in police custody.
Authorities are preparing charges for damage to property, direct assault upon a person in authority, and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act for filing before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
