DASMARIÑAS, Cavite — A 5-year-old child and his father died Monday after the man took his two children hostage and stabbed them inside their home, police said.

The suspect, identified only by the alias “Jun,” was a jeepney driver and resident of Dasmariñas City.

Initial investigation showed he locked himself in the house with his children and began attacking them, authorities said.

Neighbors called for help, and officers from the Dasmariñas Component City Police Station responded quickly. Upon arrival, police found the suspect holding a knife and stabbing one of the children.

Despite repeated attempts to negotiate and rescue the victims, the suspect continued the attack, police said. Officers fired at the man to stop further harm, killing him.

The victims were rushed to Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas. One child was declared dead on arrival, while the surviving child and an injured neighbor received immediate medical attention.
