Cavite Rep. Kiko Barzaga on Tuesday resigned from the National Unity Party (NUP) and called for an investigation into House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s alleged involvement in questionable flood control projects.
Barzaga, who represents Cavite’s 4th District, said he left the party after members allegedly spread false claims that he was gathering signatures to unseat Romualdez.
He denied the allegation.
“If anyone should be investigated, the first person to be investigated is House Speaker Martin Romualdez,” Barzaga said.
The lawmaker also stepped down as assistant majority leader and said he will now sit as an independent minority member in the House of Representatives.
