IMUS, Cavite — A 70-year-old man died after being trapped inside his burning home early Wednesday in Barangay Buhay na Tubig, Imus City, police said.

The victim, identified only as “Eduard,” was a tenant at Ramirez Compound, where the blaze broke out around 12:38 a.m. while residents were asleep, according to police reports.

The fire quickly spread, razing 19 houses and leaving 19 families homeless. It took firefighters more than an hour to fully extinguish the flames. Investigators said the victim, hindered by his age, was unable to escape and died from smoke inhalation.

Authorities are looking into faulty electrical wiring as the possible cause of the fire.

Police and Cavite fire officials are still determining the exact house where the blaze started.
