SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna — A long-awaited northbound exit along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in San Pedro City officially opened Friday, offering motorists improved access to Metro Manila and reduced travel time.
The inauguration of the San Pedro Northbound Interchange marks the completion of a key infrastructure project aimed at addressing traffic congestion and enhancing regional mobility across CALABARZON. Local residents and commuters had long requested the construction of a counterpart to the existing southbound exit.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the project was implemented following national design and safety standards and was developed in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), and SLEX operator San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Tollways.

Authorities estimate that the new exit ramp can accommodate between 5,000 to 10,000 vehicles per day and may reduce travel time by up to 45 minutes for San Pedro residents heading to Metro Manila.
“San Pedro serves as a gateway to the capital from the southern provinces,” said local officials during the ceremony. “This interchange is crucial in easing congestion and facilitating economic activity.”
The project aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s infrastructure push under the “Build Better More” program, which seeks to improve transportation networks and ease commuting challenges nationwide.
The opening was attended by regional officials and representatives from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), who emphasized the project’s impact on mobility and local development.
